Stewed Apples
Stewed apples are soft apples cooked with cinnamon, the classic Ayurvedic morning food, traditionally eaten to gently wake the digestion.

Ingredients
- 2 apples, peeled and chopped
- 1/2 cup water
- 5 cloves
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 small pinch ground cardamom
- 1 tsp ghee
- 5 raisins
Method
- Peel and chop the apples into small pieces.
- Put them in a small pot with the water, cloves, cinnamon and cardamom.
- Add the raisins and bring to a gentle simmer over low heat.
- Cover and cook for about ten to fifteen minutes until the apples are soft and spoonable.
- Remove the whole cloves and stir in the ghee.
- Spoon into a bowl and eat warm, on its own, as the first food of the day.
Eaten warm and alone first thing, ideally about half an hour before anything else. A traditional way to ease into breakfast.
