How every entry is researched, sourced and reviewed.

Sourced from the classical texts

Every article is written from the foundational treatises of Ayurveda, principally the Charaka Samhita, the Sushruta Samhita and the Ashtanga Hridayam, together with the classical lexicons known as the Nighantus. Where an article makes a statement of classical fact, it names the text it comes from.

Written to inform, not to advise

Ayurvedapedia is a reference work. It describes the classical understanding of herbs, formulations and practices. It does not give medical advice, name modern diseases as conditions to be treated, or recommend self-treatment. Readers with a health concern should consult a qualified practitioner.

Reviewed before publication

Articles are prepared by writers working from primary sources and reviewed for accuracy against the classical record before they are published. The date of the most recent review appears on every page.
