Ingredients
- 1 cup milk (dairy or plant)
- 1/2 tsp ground turmeric
- 1 pinch ground black pepper
- 1 small pinch ground cardamom
- 1 small pinch ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ghee
- 1 tsp honey or jaggery, to taste
Method
- Pour the milk into a small saucepan and set it over low to medium heat.
- Whisk in the turmeric, black pepper, cardamom and cinnamon.
- Add the ghee and let the milk warm gently, stirring often, until it is hot but not boiling.
- Keep it on a low simmer for two to three minutes so the spices infuse.
- Take the pan off the heat and let it cool for a minute.
- Stir in honey or jaggery to taste and pour into a cup to sip warm.
The pinch of black pepper is traditional and helps the turmeric do its work. Add honey only once the milk has cooled a little.
