How to practise
- Sit comfortably in a dimly lit room with a lit candle at arm's length, level with the eyes.
- Let the flame be steady and free from draughts.
- Gaze softly at the flame, keeping the eyes relaxed and blinking as little as feels comfortable.
- Rest your full attention on the flame, letting other thoughts fade into the background.
- When the eyes feel tired, gently close them and picture the flame in the mind.
- Hold that inner image for a while, then open the eyes and gaze again.
- Finish by closing the eyes and resting quietly for a few breaths.
Traditionally valued for: Gathers a scattered mind into calm, one-pointed focus.
