Nadi Shodhana, alternate-nostril breathing, is a balancing pranayama practice traditionally done to calm the mind and settle all three doshas.

How to practise

  1. Sit comfortably with a straight spine and relaxed shoulders.
  2. Rest the right thumb beside the right nostril and the right ring finger beside the left nostril.
  3. Close the right nostril with the thumb and breathe in slowly through the left.
  4. Close the left nostril with the ring finger, release the thumb, and breathe out through the right.
  5. Breathe in through the right nostril, then close it and breathe out through the left.
  6. That is one round. Keep the breath smooth, quiet, and even throughout.
  7. Continue for the chosen time, then release the hand and breathe naturally.
